With 5 adopted dogs and a few cats currently in residence at their house, Iris and Mikey Hindle are active volunteers for the Franklin County Humane Society. They are also avid motorcyclists and long-time members of the Chatham County CBA; so it made sense that they prime the inaugural Puttin' For Paws Motorcycle Trophy Run which took place on July 24, 2005. Starting out at Kelsey's Supermarket in Franklinton, the ride continued to the Sunset Lounge in Youngsville for a quick stop of refreshments and AC comfort. Onto picturesque Laurel Mills outside of Louisburg where FCHS volunteers awaited the bikers with a huge cooler of soft drinks and water. The next stop was also scenic - Pearce's Pond - where more FCHS volunteers were waiting with cold drinks and lots of smiles. The last stop was Top of the Hill Tavern in Bunn where we were met with a delicious chicken dinner compliments of the management (thanks!!!). Trophies were given out, food and beverage were consumed. A perfect ending to a day of traveling the byways of Franklin County. The $500+ raised from this event will be used for medical expenses for the animals and also will be put towards the Shelter Building Fund where the society is hoping to build a No-Kill facility. The FCHS is looking for help with fundraising (contact is Deana Ayers) and Foster Homes (contact is Julie Bonnett). Call 919-990-1045 or visit http://www.fchsnc.org/ for more information. I understand that this ride will become a yearly event, possibly being moved to the April timeframe so please watch for the 2006 event.
